The Growth Of Influencers In Brighton

Tom B

Brighton has long been seen as the digital hub of the UK, the home to numerous digital start-ups and creative individuals. Being just a 1 hour train ride from London and offering sea views, it’s understandable why people flock here each summer, but many content creators stay and call this a home.

But who is residing in Brighton and who might you bump into? Well, read on to see!

The Original OG

We can hardly talk about local influencers in Brighton without mentioning the biggest in the city and proud Brightonian, FatBoy Slim.

The musician has long lived in Brighton, originally with his partner Zoe, but they split apart and Fatboy Slim stayed in the city.

He used to play huge performances on the beach, before they were banned for causing too much mayhem (ah we wish they still went on).

The Influx From Pewdiepie

Before Mr Beast became the globes greatest YouTube star, Pewdiepie had the biggest channel, while now he’s sat in 10th position with 110 million subscribers.

Living in Japan now, back 12 years ago Pewdiepie left his home in Sweden to live on the sunny-ish shores of England. Living in an apartment with his girlfriend, he became an inspiration for numerous YouTube influencers.

The first to join him in Brighton was Jacksepticeye, another gaming YouTuber with over 30 million subscribers. His soft Irish accent and comedic take on every game he plays is so infectious, it has you laughing and curious to see more.

The Local Celebs

Arguably the most famous influencers that turned celebs were Zoella Sugg and her partner Alfie Deyes. With a combined following of more than 20 million on YouTube alone, they certainly broke past the ‘influencer’ tag and became household names.

Zoella won numerous awards between 2011 and 2015 for her vlogging, while she even starred in Harry Potter!

But one massive list of local celebs inevitably comes from Brighton & Hove football club. It wasn’t too long ago they were a non-league team, playing in the national league and trying to work their way up, playing in front of a small audience in a tiny stadium. Oh how things have changed!

Breaking into the premier league and easily establishing themselves, they’re now looking up towards European stardom. This also means that they’re successfully attracting superstar footballers to the area, so if you happen to be passing some of the mansions, keep an eye out for some recognisable faces.

Travel & Foodies

The biggest Brighton influencer in the travel and food sector is Spaghetti Traveller, a couple’s blog by Tom Bourlet and Raquel Mitchell, where they share their ventures around the world, but with a strong local push.

The trips to Japan, Kenya and the Maldives are certainly eye-catching, but their Instagram channel has focused more on local restaurant visits over the past 12 months.

Travel With Nige is a fast growing Brighton based influencer on Tiktok, jumping by 50% in the past 3 months alone. Working on the channel full time, Nige is amazing at sharing his views of the world on a daily basis.

Another is CBD Sloth, a blog around the CBD industry and testing out the best products in the market. The site has won numerous awards over the past five years, including Media of the Year, recognised as the biggest influencer in the CBD industry in the world.

Kat Eat Food merges her time between Brighton and London, eating at all the biggest restaurants across the two cities. The bottomless wings reel certainly has our mouths watering, as does the bottomless cake!

For fashion and beauty, SuitYourLook is a great site which has a strong focus on men’s beauty, not a commonly discussed subject in the media and yet a growing industry. From exploring the growing world of the oral microbiome with probiotics to the best clothes for hiking, SuitYourLook is constantly delving into new areas.
